Today we're talking DIY No Sew Drop Cloth Curtains & I'm going to walk you through how to make your own. I want you to jump on the diy fabric project bandwagon & for less than what you'd spend in store you can create several gorgeous panels! I love this project so much because it requires little work on your part. I've done several drop cloth projects & this one is by far the easiest! If you are looking for a quick DIY project to complete this weekend, this is it! You don't have to know how to sew to make these beautiful, yet inexpensive DIY no sew drop cloth curtains. Here's a shot of them before I steamed them. I love using a steamer to release wrinkles & deepen the curtain pleats. I even use this steamer on our bedding! It's the BOMB!!
REQUIRED MATERIALS
Here's the list of materials you'll need to complete this project. You can shop this list by clicking on the items below. I'm a bargain shoppers, so trust... I searched the highest rated, lowest priced items I've used myself!
- 9x12 canvas dropcloth
- Pair of scissors
- Iron
Step 1: Check the care label on your drop cloth & wash & dry it according to the package instructions based on fibers. If you have this unit like me that label comes in handy!
Step 2: Find the one seam in the middle of your drop cloth & carefully grab your seam ripper & separate the two pieces.
Step 3: Measure how long you need your finished panels to be. Once you have that number add two inches to each side of your panel. Carefully measure & cut your panels to length.
Tip: You may need to add more than 2 inches to the top of your panel depending on the thickness of your curtain rod!
Step 4: Grab your iron & press your panel, while making sure to pin & iron flat the two extra inches on each side.
Step 5: Remove your pins. Be careful to ensure that you have pressed flat the excess inches, because this this what your fabric bond will bond to.
Step 6: This is where you'd grab your liner (optional) cut to size & your fabric bond. Place your liner inside of the drop cloth making sure to fold over the creased 2-inch excess. If you are using a liner you'll place one strip of fabric bond between the creased excess & the liner & the other between the back side of the liner & the drop cloth.
Step 7: Iron as normal, but use steam! You will continue this process throughout the length of your panel. Be very careful to ensure that the fabric bond stays in place. You don't want to rush during this part because you may end up completely bonding the area your curtain rod goes in! If you are using curtain clips, like I have in the past (pictured below) continue ironing as normal.
Tip: If you've done this properly you should only have to bond three sides, because the drop cloth will still have one finished edge on each panel.
If we got all the steps done right we should end up with two curtain panels that are the exact finished size you need. I like my curtains to puddle on the floor, so I've given myself a few extra inches to ensure I have the look I want.
Tip: Do you like your curtains to look more polished? You can add curtain rings, decorative fabric banding wherever you'd like or, pleat them to take them up a notch.
