Hey there friends! Today I'm sharing how to make easy Christmas placemat pillows. I've been knocking out this amazing DIY pillow project, since 2009. When I'm in a pinch this easy project never disappoints. I was able to make several of these pillows for under $15, depending on items you have on hand it could cost you even less. If you're visiting from Instagram, Facebook, or Youtube welcome! I'm so glad you're here. If you missed last week's 2018 Christmas home tour click, here. Let's get to it...
The items you'll need for this project are pretty simple & I have them listed below. If you have amazon prime you can have these delivered in one day & if you use Ebates you can get up to 15% cash back on this purchase as well as an additional $25 for signing up & purchasing using my link.
If you've been following me on social media you saw me share a few shots with these beautiful DIY pillows. I promise once you learn this technique you'll be looking at store bought pillows sideways. Don't get me wrong ... I still buy them!
Supplies needed, click the arrows to view. I bet you have some of these on hand already!
- Placemats of your choice (make sure they are two-sided) Merry Christmas, Sparkle w/ fringe placemat. These are under $3 right now - don't forget to use Ebates for cash back!
- Seam ripper
- Stitch witch
- Poly-fil pillow filler or a pillow form (size down one size smaller than your placemat)
- Gems or any additional adornments you'd like to add for decoration (not required)
Ensure the placemat that you want to use is double sided. This is mainly because we are going to use filler to turn it into a usable pillow.
The first thing you are going to want to do is gently grab both sides of the fabric on your placemat & pull them in separate directions, apart from each other. This will help you greatly in the next step. Grab your placemat & seam ripper. We are going to open a small portion of the bottom seam (big enough to fit the filling through). In the end you should have something that looks like this.
This is where you'll assess if you've made your opening big enough. Grab your Poly-Fil & begin to fill the interior of the placemat. Make sure that you are using your fingers to really push the filling into the corners. We're not trying to overfill them, but just enough so that the corners don't bend down.
This is where you have the option to stitch witch or sew your pillow back together. When I'm in a pinch for time - I always take the stitch witch route. I will say though... the regular sewing route can be just as quick if you're comfortable on a sewing machine! I show you how to use it, here. It's really easy, I promise.
Fluff & style your pillow & there you have it. I'd love to see your creations using my tutorial, so tag me & share this post with your friends.
